Police have dismissed doubts over the death of most wanted terror suspect Noordin M. Top in a gun battle in the Central Java town of Temanggung last week.

A police source said Monday the raid on Saturday followed a week of surveillance on the terror group leader.

“We followed him wherever he went and took pictures of him. We knew what he ate and noticed that he once slept in a graveyard,” the source told kompas.com on Monday.

He added that Noordin was raided after the arrest of his couriers Indra Arif Hermawan and Aris Susanto.

The source said Noordin had identified himself as Romi to a few number of people he met while in hiding in Temanggung.

The police’s counterterror squad shot dead a man believed to be Noordin after more than 16 hours of siege. His body is being identified at the police hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta.

National Police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri told a media conference on Saturday DNA samples from the man’s family members would be collected to confirm if he was the fugitive terror suspect.
